Vi - looks like the PPT tried to stimulate some program buying Friday at 3:30, but it didn't stick this time. this appears to be the M.O. - flood the market with a bunch of S&P futures buy orders, which likely kicks in some of the big firms' computer program buying. Sometimes it works great, and other times looks like a flop. There's probably a manual over-ride switch (ie someone who says "sorry, not this time Hank")
