Taliban are sunnis who sheltered al queda in afganistan. I am missing the analogy. Are you saying that shiaa iraqis in cohoots with iran are planning to attack the US like al queda did? Or do you not see the difference between the two--al queda and al sadr for example?

I will let JF speak for himself, but in iraq you have the potential for all of the worst elements of radicalism. A disaffected sunni minority likely to become oppressed by the shiai majority after years of the reverse, and the shia majority aligned with an increasingly more powerful and hostile iran...and radical islam over-arching the entire mess.
