While we have never had break in problems in the town home complex I've lived in for 28 years, I made some changes a couple years ago when I turned 70. I had a new front door installed with a small window. I also have a strategically place mirror on the wall near the door that lets me see through that window to see who's at the door without that person realizing I can do so. Then, just inside the closet door next to the front room door I have a loaded tear gas gun on the top shelf. I also have a baseball bat leaning against the wall just inside that closet. Not sure which one I'd go for first, but I lean toward the bat.
