It's worth stopping to think what differentiates states now apart from the landscape, climate and regional accents. Are there urban centers of any size where people live that much differently from comparably-sized urban centers in other states? New real estate development (residential and commercial) seems to follow cookie-cutter designs wherever you go. Our news and entertainment is 99% nationalized on TV and the Internet. Regions may be relatively more conservative or liberal but apart from Utah, it's hard to think of any that are that much different from their neighbors.

A little redder or bluer doesn't seem to add up to drastically different little satellite communities, each drawing unique and likeminded inhabitants.
