I knew it but that is a different issue, anyway. Even Methodists and Presbetarians use a very slight distinction. The pledge is to a Nation which exists under something noble and great. It does not force the Deism of Jefferson, the Pantheism of Einstein, the Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Budism, spiritualism or other recognition of your personal or my personal view of existence but a simple acceptance that there is principle and greatness that rises above and over us all. The pledge is to a nation which stands in humble respect of such greatness and principle...It's not a prayer, its a pledge to support a nation's stand, worthy of every decent person.
