OK, many of your points are good ones. Many people probably do want internal drives. Finally, now that NEC and Matsushita are beginning to produce Zip drives, there should be enough drives in the market place to 1) bring the price of the external drive below 100 dollars, and 2) ensure that internal drives are available to those who want them.

As for problems with a boot disk which the user has 'read protected,' well, what are you going to do? There's no way to make any system idiot proof. Idiots are too resourceful. As for the problem of a 'write protected' boot floppy, I can only point out that with 100MB available on a boot disk, you have room to include the disk tools, just in case.

I will say that I believe that I would prefer to see ALL types of Zip drives available in plenty. But apparently there are reasons why this is not the case at this time. I hope that new suppliers coming online will alleviate the problem.
