David, 34 years ago I wrote a COBOL Compiler (with 6 others)
for a major computer manufacturer. We never expected COBOL to
last 20 years (too verbose). Based on the way we wrote the
Compiler, I suggest you go back and check for correct answers
from your "couple hundred lines of code".<g>
