I just don't get why BT wanted MCI - or why AT&T may want GTE - or
why GTE wants MCI. Merger of old style phone technology companies
to achieve economies of scale over legacy wiring plants and trying to
move data over it makes no sense to me - the time for this seems past.

I agree with George Gilder. The new game is voice over data networks.
It is much easier to carry voice over a data network than data over a
voice network.

Why in the world does AT&T think acquiring GTE is an appropriate
response to the WCOM-MCI bid? How does a GTE-MCI combo facilitate
the new game? Where will these companies be in 10 years when
VoIP and VoFR allow long distance calls for the price of local
calls today.

I just don't see it. What am I missing? Someone please show me the
errors in my thinking.
