Wikipedia explains the real REX84, a FEMA "readiness exercise" to round up citizens opposed to the government.

The profoundly strange Ronald Reagan thought this a good idea in 1984.

Reagan reminded me of my GreatGrandmother when she was in her 90s.

Anytime a tranformer would blow-out in West Hollywood and the lights would go out, or some similar event, my GreatGrandmother would say, "What are the Bolsheviks up to now!?" Having lost her fortune in 1917 nothing could convince her the Bolsheviks were not creating black-outs, traffic and health problems in Los Angeles.Given the power I have no doubt she would have drawn up plans to have all of her "suspicious" neighbors arrested.

She didn't like "the movies" either - the old local name for film industry employees. In an earlier era For Rent signs on apartment buildings would often read "No Movies Allowed".

Recently the name of this exercise from 24 years ago, REX84, has been given a new life as a much written about conspiracy theory that the government will soon place millions in concentration camps so "you'll need your guns and hidden survival rations".

Bush and Cheney do have a bizarre bent toward authoritarian dictatorship, but call me a skeptic.

Did Cheney really have Halliburton build concentration camps to hold home owners who are foreclosed upon? And if so why did most of the people who are so concerned about this reborn REX84 vote to re-elect Bush?

It smells like nonsense to me. The streets have always been a perfectly good place for former home owners, and I imagine they will continue to be so.
