Credit Suisse's Dougan Says Markets Are `Overly Optimistic'

bloomberg.com

May 16 (Bloomberg) -- Credit Suisse Group Chief Executive Officer Brady Dougan said markets are too optimistic that the credit crisis is nearing an end.

``I think that the markets are overly optimistic right now,'' Dougan said in a speech in Geneva today. ``There continue to be challenges and that's going to play out over the next six to eight weeks. There continue to be issues on the liquidity side.''

Banks worldwide have announced more than $342 billion of writedowns and loans losses since market disruption started last year. As a result of the crisis, companies will probably narrow their scope of businesses and have to deal with lower profits in some areas, Dougan said.
