Figured. The Republicans of the time were focussed on the Soviet Union and saw Hitler as a natural ally.

Was it like a party platform, or a single Senator that happened to be a Republican?

On a more serious note, after the betrayal by the appeasers (Chamberlain, and the one even more guilty - French Daladier), much of Europe had to chose between 2 evils (Nazis and Bolsheviks), and Nazis seemed like the lesser of 2 evils to many.

(I could see Silent Z jumping up saying that those people were fools, arguing with facts about Nazis discovered years later, not known to people and countries allying themselves with Nazis at the time).
