Obama: Bush and McCain leveled 'dishonest, divisive attacks'

President Bush launched "a political attack" on him and other Democrats yesterday, Sen. Barack Obama just told voters in Watertown, S.D.

And Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain, he said, "embraced" that attack.

Obama is responding to the president's comments in Israel yesterday about those who Bush said want to "negotiate with terrorists and radicals" -- a policy of "appeasement" that won't work, the president added. Obama and other Democrats say the president was attacking them and likening them to those who appeased the Nazis, though the White House has said he was not.

"I want to be perfectly clear with George Bush and John McCain and to the people of South Dakota," Obama just said. "If George Bush and John McCain want to have a debate about protecting the United States of America, that is a debate that I'm happy to have any time, any place and that is a debate I will win because George Bush and John McCain have a lot to answer for."
