5/16/08 update I guess the idea is that if you're paying more at the gas pump it makes sense you should also pay more for stocks. Consequently, the Nasdaq Composite Index and the Nasdaq Biotech Index both had decent weeks. At Friday's close, the NCI was down -4.65% YTD (vs. down -7.80% YTD a week ago), while the NBI was down -3.67% YTD (vs. down -4.54% YTD a week ago). The Contest portfolio median also rose, closing the week down -8.92% YTD (vs. down -10.02% YTD a week ago). At week's end, once again, 9 of the 33 Contest portfolios were in the black YTD with 10 of the portfolios beating the NBI. Thanks to a takeout of IOMI at a big premium, Gene's portfolio has rocketed to a huge lead and is now up an astounding 94.8% YTD. ROBERT's portfolio is in second place with a 25.7% YTD gain. Finally, on a personal note: It's my birthday week (No. 70), so it was especially nice to have both my Charity and real life portfolios put up some good gains. The MLNM $25 cash buyout closed Wednesday and for the time being I just used $25 for the closing quote. I'll try to do the reallocation of the proceeds to the other stocks in RCMAC's & TILEY's soon. (My intention is to use today's closing prices for the reallocation, but if anyone has a better idea please post your suggestion.) Have a terrific weekend folks! Below is the Top Ten list on 5/16/08:
