I think more people are taking mass transit or carpooling in addition to cutting down on multiple trips. Cost of gas is certainly altering the driving patterns amongst relatively well to do people.

I could never understand why people spend idling their vehicles in a line at Costco gas stations for saving .05. Typically stations in the vicinity of Costco GS are priced competetively.
