Fresh Air from WHYY, May 16, 2008 · John Hagee believes the end of days, the Rapture and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ are imminent. He says that the rebirth of Israel and the restoration of Jerusalem are a prelude to the return of the Lord.

Hagee is founder of the Christian Zionist group, Christians United for Israel, and the author In Defense of Israel and Jerusalem Countdown: A Warning to the World.

In this 2006 interview, Hagee described Hurricane Katrina as "God's retribution for a planned gay pride parade," a remark that earned him critical media coverage.
