I was posted at the US Embassy in Mauritius and had to come to Madagascar to meet with one of my agency's Washington officials who was touring the region.

Madagascar is a poor, crowded, badly governed and badly deforested country. If you like teeming Third World poverty it's great. But the lemurs in the nature reserves you see on TV don't represent the real country.
