did not want his son fighting over in Iraq....

I seriously doubt any parent of a soldier "wants" his son or daughter to be fighting in Iraq or anywhere else.

But most of us are pragmatic about it and realize that it is hard, dangerous work that has to be done, and work that a sizable fraction of our nation will not appreciate or respect.

I think any parent would be opposed to his or her son suspending a promising engineering education to fight in Iraq or anywhere else. Still, he felt strongly about it and it isn't my place to persuade him otherwise; he is an informed adult. I don't think I would have felt right about it had I persuaded him to go against his own values.

I think this is all stuff you wouldn't understand.
