Well, like other famed exports, these ants aren't native. They first popped up in Mississippi or Alabama in the 1930s.

And they are really adaptable. Last I heard they have made some behavioral modifications that allows them to deal with colder winters.

So you might be seeing them soon. If you start seeing really big ant mounds, like #2 washtub size or larger, then you have a good chance that y'all have been gifted.
