video-on-demand is a fluid term especially outside of Cable and Telco. It's probably a download service that has failed to attract enough customers to be profitable much less the technology. Getting the internet connected to the TV is the stumbling part. Netflix is a distributor. But a download service over the internet is a virtual store that can't make money. It has no control over it's pricing. It always has to be the lowest price.

Therefore the players are repeaters. Like AKAM, LVLT or LLNW.
Plus box makers to receive, store and secure without burning.
Possibly DISH with it's Slingbox could be a player as well.

Seachange is one of the companies developing a server service outside the cable plant to capture internet content and then resending back into Cable. So YouTube can be played to the TV through the Cable and Settop.
