I guess, the following conclusions can be drawn from this
chart:

1) After the dot-com and stock market bubble of 2000 the US
economy started to collapse.

2) In 2003-2005 the economy enjoyed a temporary
stabilization without real growth, as the housing bubble
inflated.

3) Since 2005 housing bubble pop the US economy and US living
standard started sliding into abyss again.

This is certainly how everyone on main street feels, given the
perpetual slide of Bush's approval ratings, and the true
picture is clearly shown. It's funny how that yellow metal
tends to reveal the true nature of booms and busts.

The main achievement of the Fed and the administration: little
unemployment despite a collapse of an epic stock mania thanks
to the devaluation of the dollar.
