Your last chart is not about inflation, it's about the value of gold vs. the value of stocks - so it just says that stock value is going down or the gold value is going up. Or both.

One of the biggest discussions I have with somebody currently, is whether USA's position in the world economy makes it behave differently than a small country with similar debts or not. USA is different in several regards: It is used to be at the front edge of inventing stuff, meaning that you don't just copy what others do, and USA is a big part of the foundation for world trade.

Does that matter? Or will USA go through the same phases as other countries that had a huge debt?
