Well, the example was NOT a good one for my point, as my error is blatant. Download times would be 2 3/4 hours, 48 seconds and 8 seconds, in ideal conditions, respectively, and probably 4+ hours, 4+ minutes and 1+ minutes under real conditions. A 56K modem would probably get it in 2+ hours.

But the balance of the argument remains. Is there sufficient cause for a 5-20 hour / month user who would rarely be downloading files of this size, to pay the likely significant premium (say somewhere between $40 to $130 over the cost of a standard 28K/56K ISP connection) this would cost?

To download a typical page of 25K would take maybe 1 to 3 seconds with a 28K, a second or under with 56K and a fraction of that with a 1Mbps. You likely would not "feel" much difference here with a 6mbps over the 1mbps.

Too little sleep makes for sloppy analysis, so goodnight. I believe the balance holds well and the point made.
