The corrosion problems with geothermal are just awful... you can't beat a coal plant. The price of coal is rising like all other fuels, so geothermal is very attractive as alternative base load power. There are successful geothermal plants in California, the Philippines, New Zealand, etc. More are planned, but I'm not sure the local one will happen because we have many other fuel sources available.
