I disagree that that's the split. Not acknowledging that CO2 is having some effect on climate is outside the range of acceptance, the flip side of the quack science coin.

And thus the problem we all face.

Indeed. Almost all of this is unknowable except by a small cadre of elite scientists who specialize in this area and even are in untraveled territory. None of the rest of us can claim to understand it. Any assertions by other than that elite crew are expressions of belief, some with reasonable basis, most not so much.
