Windfall taxes for the oil company is not the answer. The oil executives are smart people, and they work for shareholders who want good return on their investment. If a windfall tax is enacted, then gas prices will go up, just to compensate for the additional tax. Exploration will be curtailed since oil executives will show short term return and not long term reward.

There is a big dilemma between being green and the welfare of the citizens. One example is the snail darter. Yes, that is one of the endangered species, but would you sacrifice the welfare of humans for that animal? Dinosaurs are not roaming the earth anymore, and we are fine with that, and yet for a snail darter we are spending billions just to reroute a freeway just not to disturb the breeding ground for snail darter.

I am not opposed for being green, but sometimes there is a limit where we protect animals at the cost of human welfare.

The debate can go on for ages and we should just say there there must be an agreement to disagree.
