She was derided for not ever being proud of "this country" until her husband ran for President. The word "really" adds a layer of pride so there can be a continuum of pride.

I could say I never really appreciated "The Star Spangled Banner" until I heard the 1968 rendition by Jose Feliciano, at a World Series Game. Not because I wasn't already proud of the National Anthem and this country, but because after repetition, especially at the beginning of ballgames, it took a fresh approach (before anyone else did a personal version) and caused me and this nation to hear the words and phrases differently, and that brought meaning to each phrase and the anthem in a way that I had unwittingly grown to ignore or not really hear and appreciate.

Do you still see no difference with or without the "really"?
