T"50 million or so people without health care coverage" is slightly disingenuous. First the official number is slightly lower than that. Much more importantly most of that number either are eligible for government health care payment benefits and just haven't signed up yet, or have enough money to pay for health insurance and chose not to do so.

But leaving aside numbers for a minute, yes there are health care horror stories in the US as well.

The point though is that the person in that video was not some poor, uneducated person at the margins of society, or some careless person who put himself at risk by not getting insurance when he could have done so. His pre-condition situation was pretty normal for Canada. He didn't have to be poor, or careless, or in any sort of unusually difficult circumstances (other than the medical condition itself) to run in to these problems.
