But at one point the Islamic community was the DRIVER of modernization, so it's not correct to say modernization is contrary to Islam. Yeah, I'm not so sure that 800 years ago anyone could tell the difference between "modern times" and "stone age". Yeah, you could.......800 years ago Europeans were living in cow dung while Arabs were performing simple eye surgery and inventing hospitals. Its amazing how advanced Muslims were for the time.
