The deal will have the company delivering 265,000 megawatt-hours per year at $98 per megawatt-hour.

The energy will come from Western GeoPower's 35-megawatt geothermal power plant which is scheduled to open in early 2010 at the Geysers geothermal field in northern California.

The power purchase agreement announced Tuesday is not subject to any further approvals.

The Geysers field, 120 kilometres north of San Francisco, has been generating electricity since 1960, with current output of 900 megawatts including four 55-megawatt plants operated by Northern California Power Agency.

"Our commitment to explore and develop innovative and effective 'green power' energy programs is reflected in this agreement," stated Jim Pope, general manager of Northern California Power.
