What they really believe: Americans are just too damned rich, lazy, and overweight. The rest of the world will hate us unless we demonstrate asceticism.

Of course, it seems that these guys think asceticism is right for us peons but not for the elite. Rich liberals can fly around in learjets, but by god we had better not drive our SUVs to the store.

We have to be on the forefront in alternative energy research if we want to keep our standard of living.

But is it not sacrificing our standard of living to live in a home that is cooled to only 76 degrees? I think it is.
