Essentially we are having to bet on what Ahmadinejad is going to become? Excellent point. Not really. Iran isn't Germany, not even close. There is no comparable notion of empire today as there was back then (and even then, the very notion had faded to almost nothing, with Hitler's idiotic ambition being the final blow). Ahmadinejad isn't Hitler--he doesn't actually control Iran, he isn't a dictator. He can and will be replaced at some point in the not too distant future, IMHO. He was screwing up their economy when oil was $70-80, he's gotten a reprieve with the recent rise in price, but at some point the price will collapse. My suspicion is that this recent rise is the beginning of a blow-off phase. How long it will last I don't know. But trees don't grow to the sky. Anyway, it wasn't just Neville that "led" to or enabled Hitler. A lot of other things contributed. That example is just one "lesson" of history. All lessons of history have counterexamples, and none are absolute. Context is everything.
