Z already told you. There simply are not enough resources to raise the rest of the world to our standard of living. Heck, there probably isn't enough to raise China and India to that level, and they are on the fast track.

And the resources that remain are getting harder and harder to extract and refine. And that means more energy used. And, given that the cost of that is unlikely to go down anytime soon...
