>>What I want to do is cause some to consider conclusions that they would never reach on their own. The issue of profiting is interesting. Think of it - those evil oil guys are profiting from the actions of their opponents.<<
Bob -
Yes, I do see how the oil companies profit when supply is restricted, as I have said before. The opponents of drilling in ANWR, meanwhile, haven't acted in secret. Have they been aided surreptitiously by the oil companies? How would I know?
I'd say the oil companies will be happy either way. If they get the go ahead to drill in ANWR, they'll have a new, productive oil field in about ten years, at a time when prices will most likely be higher than they are now. If not, they get to benefit from higher prices anyway.
As for your goal in getting people to consider conclusions they would not reach on their own, I think that's a worthy goal. That having been said, mocking and condescension aren't part of any class I have signed up for. Perhaps I'm being too sensitive, and you don't intend to come across that way. But that's how some of your posts look to me.
I know two important things:
1 - I don't know everything
2 - A portion of what I do know is wrong
Thus, I'm willing to change my mind when I encounter new information or a convincing argument.
Again, if you want to have a sincere discussion, I'm ready.
