By that do you mean if there was no other income from the production and sale of the ethanol, that the subsidies would themselves be enough to make it profitable?

If that's what you mean than you might be right in this case. But if you are actually wrong, and the subsidies are enough to cover the costs and give a profit even if the only income realized was the subsidy, than it would hardly be the first time that this idea applied.
