Do you really think it's reasonable to expect an airline to haul you across country and back for that?

I'm not trying to decide some idea of something that would somehow be objectively reasonable, only going by my personal history and expectations formed from it.

But if they fill the plane they will make a profit on $350 per seat.

Since I hunt bargains when I fly (up to, in some cases, the point of planning my trips when I find a bargain) I'm the marginal person that helps them fill the plane. Much less than $350 from me can be well worth it to the airlines.

Rationally it would seem that the phone would cost ten or twenty times the cost of the cord.

The cord doesn't come with a one or two year service plan. Most phones do.
