Sure, but it doesn't have anything to do with the characteristics of the particular cultural divide (allegedly) initiated by Buchanan and Nixon: "two Americas: the quiet, ordinary, patriotic, religious, law-abiding Many, and the noisy, élitist, amoral, disorderly, condescending Few." It doesn't have anything to do, for example, with the hostility towards cultural elites and ivory towers, secular humanism, cultural relativism, or with the perception of lefties as unpatriotic that you see on threads that cater to today's R partisans. It was simply a Willie Horton ad, before Willie Horton's time. |
