Company Press Release

FSI International Receives Add-On Orders for Matsushita Facility

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 16, 1997--FSI International, Inc. (Nasdaq:FSII) announced today it has
received an order from Matsushita Semiconductor Corporation of America's (MASCA) DRAM production facility in
Puyallup, Wash. to supply additional chemical management equipment and on-site installation and start-up services. The
orders, valued at approximately $1 million, include the Model P4400 Slurry Blending and Distribution System, and the
ChemLitho(TM) 1500 Developer Blending System.

''Our team of chemical purity experts has done an outstanding job in meeting MASCA's facility requirements,'' said Joel
Elftmann, chairman and chief executive officer of FSI. ''The combination of excellent on-site project management and our
global support capability has been a key factor in the successful completion of this new facility.''

The P4400 system controls the blending and delivery of slurries, using FSI's patented vacuum pressure transfer technology for
circulation. The slurry is drawn from source containers and blended to predetermined mix ratios. A Venturi vacuum is used to
fill vessels, and humidified high-purity nitrogen is used to dispense the chemical. The solution is dispensed to the fab using two
vacuum-pressure vessels, providing a smooth transfer of liquids as one vessel fills while the other dispenses.

The ChemLitho(TM) Developer Blending System provides precise, on-site blending of positive photoresist developers.
ChemLitho Systems lower developer costs and reduce process variability by improving the quality and consistency of the
developer.

The Chemical Management Division supplies a wide range of chemical generating, blending and delivery products, and total
systems support for microelectronics manufacturers worldwide. The Division maintains a leadership role in the development of
slurry blending and delivery technology for the chemical mechanical polishing process. FSI Metron Europe, Ltd. (FME)
provides chemical management products and support for the European market. FSI Chemical Management Company-Korea,
Ltd. (FSI CMC-Korea) provides chemical management support and turnkey installation services to its customers in Korea.
The Division has design and manufacturing facilities in Chaska, Minn., Hollister, Calif. and Newhaven, England.

FSI International, Inc. is a leading global supplier of processing equipment used at key production steps to manufacture
microelectronics, including semiconductor devices, thin film heads, flat panel displays and multi-chip modules. The Company
develops, manufactures, markets and supports products used in the technology areas of microlithography, surface conditioning
and chemical management. FSI International's customers include microelectronics manufacturers located throughout North
America, Europe, Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
