Again, I'm not questioning that. It's reasonable to determine that that duty to do something different outweighs the responsibility for Iraq and to pull out. My point is that we will still have abandoned that responsibility. It may be smart and with good cause and all that, but it's still an abandonment of our responsibility to Iraq. We can't claim it's not.

If you promise your neighbors to, say, look after their cats while they're away, a big fire breaks out on your block, and you apply yourself to saving your own home and family while the cats perish in theirs, you have abandoned your responsibility to those cats. You made the right choice. But you can't deny that you abandoned your responsibility to your neighbors and their cats.
