Vale to Build $1 Billion Oman Pellet Plant as Middle East Steel Industry Booms

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA--(Marketwire - May 22, 2008) - Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- The Middle East iron and steel sector is booming on the back of the construction industry, the manufacture of materials handling and supply chain equipment, and hydrocarbons sector equipment supplies. Brazil's Vale (NYSE:RIO) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), the world's largest iron ore producer, has signed an agreement with Oman to build a $1 billion iron ore pellet plant in the Sohar Industrial Park. The Oman project will be the first wholly owned greenfield investment project in the ferrous sector for Vale outside of Brazil.
