I agree that people drive so many of these gas guzzelers- SUV and pickups-- an it has increased US gas consumption by 4 million barrels a day. Were that amount available on world markets there would be much lower prices . Then it would be up to individual countries to set gas taxes at levels high enough to offset external costs of vehicles especially air pollution and infrastructure building and maintenance, which would also tamp down demand. We are running out of oil at least cheap oil and have to keep pressure up to drive less thirsty vehicles and to more to find alternatives to gas driven vehicles. To do otherwise is to be exceedingly selfish to all and to future generations. It is not a matter of social policy per se; the bible can be quoted as well.
