The Romans didn't call the eastern part of their empire either Greece or Macedonia. Greece and Macedonia were part of the eastern Roman empire though.

And the eastern Roman empire was primarily culturally Greek. The Greek city-states were prolific colonizers for centuries before Alexander the Great. Alexander conquered the Persian empire and following his reign many more Greek cities were established all over the eastern Mediterranean.
