Mary- the blogs, threads, and news has been filled with different interpretations. Personally, I think she just stuck her foot in it. It was an awkward comparison anyway, given that the primaries were held months later in 68 than they are nowadays. And there was no reason to use the trigger word- assassination- to make the point that some primaries have extended. This was one of the reasons Colin Powell's wife was so adamantly opposed to his running, and obviously the secret service takes it seriously also, starting Obama's protection early. Now you may believe that it's hypersensitive to react in that way, but it IS an interpretation, and denial doesn't get rid of it.
