The problem is not in the labeling process, as essential part of human intelligence and communication ... Lane, I am so glad to see this observation made. I would extend it to include "generalizing," which somehow also has acquired a negative aura. Human kind would not be here today except for it's intellectual ability to make generalizations from the particular. Were we inhibited in this ability, our specie would have long since dropped out of the evolutionary competition as a result of petting every lion, tiger, and bear we came across until there were none of us left. The more complex life becomes, all the more reason there is to continually evaluate, generalize, and classify.
