Bob -

The Fairness Doctrine was not really about censorship. It was established as an FCC policy at a time when there were very few media outlets. The idea was that if one of those outlets provided time for someone to present a political view, say one of their newspeople presenting an editorial opinion, they had to provide equal time to someone who held an opposing view, on request.

But that's not even remotely relevant to the discussion I was having with whoever it was. (It's been a long day, and I just don't remember.) He said that "the left" wants to silence conservative broadcasters. I said I was aware of no such movement among "the left."

Since the FCC rescinded the Fairness Doctrine in 1987, it could hardly be germane to that discussion.
