The Romans didn't call the eastern part of their empire either Greece or Macedonia.

As I understand it the Romans called Alexander's homeland "Thrace". The point I was trying to make was clouded because it's been a while since I studied the details. That point was that the Romans used their term for Alexander's country to describe Greece (and Persia) and this was considered an insult to the inhabitants of Greece and Persia. The Christian community was primarily recruited from this area and that is part of the reason they broke from Rome to the point of moving the empire to Constantinople.
