I'm 15 pounds heavier than my military weight 30 years ago and I can shave off 5 when I try, but after that it's like I hit a wall.

My story, exactly. Except it was 50 years ago that I left the Marine Corps at 180 lbs. I added about 2 pounds a year before I realized I had to do something about it and dropped to 195. Like you, I can throw off about 5 pounds rather easily, but, these days, I'm probably too lazy to work off the other 10, so I live with it... and enjoy meals.
