Is anyone actually considering the possibility that this man is suffering from senile dementia? For real. Yes, certainly when you notice his pattern of announcing "in my meeting with so-and-so, he said x, y, z" immediately followed by so-and-so announcing that he said no such thing. Carter always thought that whatever he thought was right ought to be the truth. Now he thinks that whatever he thinks is right IS the truth.
