As far as I know, I have never claimed to be an independent on the Center, (although I did vote for John Anderson in 1980 and for Ross Perot in 1992; mea culpa) nor have I ever denied that I am a Bush supporter. I have been a registered Republican since 1996. It is possible you may have me confused with someone else.
I wear my conservatism on my sleeve and support Bush in many things, if not most, of his policies and actions while in the White House. I disagreed with the immigration bill he recently supported, on farm policy, on ethanol subsidies, and possibly a few others. I support him on the Iraq invasion, on Iran policy, on tax policy (making the tax cuts permanent would have been a good thing but was not politically possible at that time), on individualized SS accounts, on NAFTA and trade with Columbia, on alternative energy development including wind, solar, oil sands (but not oil shale yet) and nuclear, but not ethanol, and on drilling in both ANWAR and offshore. I believe that he has failed to purge those around him, particularly in State, who have publicly thwarted and flouted his policy, and should have done so. I believe the man is honest to a fault, says what he believes and believes what he says, and follows firm principles in guiding his actions. I wish he were a better speaker and acknowledge an inability to articulate clearly and effectively as one of his faults. And finally I wish his leadership had been more effective on limiting Federal spending.
And finally, I'm quite sure the country has been blessed and much the better for having had him as President for the last 7+ years, as opposed to either Al Gore or John Kerry.
