Fair enough. By gas lasers I mean Argon, CO2, HeCd, HeNe and the like. Excimers certainly don't fit into the mature category, at least at 193 nm. These lasers are slowly giving way to diode pumped solid state lasers, such as frequency double YAGs, microlasers and the like.

COHR said in their last report that both have good margins. Only one is growing however, and I reckon that Argon is shrinking fast and being replaced by Verdi and the like, HeNe nearly dead, killed by red diodes, HeCd is next in the line of fire. The CO2 still seems to be the best way to get very high power and is probably growing in manufacturing applications like laser marking and cutting.
