Numonyx begins prototype 45-nm production in Kiryat Gat Fab 1 is the first fab in the world to produce 45-nanometer technology NOR Flash processors. Shahar Zadok 22 May 08 11:57 Numonyx Inc. has begun prototype production of its 45-nanometer technology silicon wafers at its Fab 1 in Kiryat Gat. Fab 1 is the first fab in the world to produce NOR Flash processors with this technology. The company brought forward the production date, originally scheduled for the second half of the year. The fab has 1,300 employees. Numonyx currently manufacturers wafer with 90 and 65-nanometer technologies, and the changeover to 45-nanometer technology will enable it to produce a larger number of processors on a single silicon wafer, which will boost the company's profitability. Numonyx Israel general manager Yonathan Wand told "Globes", "Following good design and good performance, we decided to bring forward production of the prototype. Later, we'll send samples to selected customers for testing. When development is completed, we'll begin mass production during the second half of the year."
